The Hip-Hop powerhouse known as Top Dawg Entertainment has built a nearly flawless resume with its staple artists, "Kendrick Lamar", "Schoolboy Q", "Ab-Soul", "SZA" and in March of 2013 they would add the southern MC phenom known as, "Isaiah Rashad". Rashad's musical influences growing up consisted of legendary musical acts that included, "Outkast", "Erykah Badu", "UGK", "Isley Brothers", "George Clinton" and most importantly, "Master P".
Born on May 16th, 1991 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Isaiah would begin developing his craft to become a sharp lyricist and songwriter beginning in the tenth grade when he began rapping on Mac computers without a microphone. Upon graduating high school, Rashad would attend a short stint at Tennessee State University until working multiple jobs, perfecting his musical skills and unfortunate legal incidents would force him out of the academic arena. Fortunately enough, Rashad would be introduced to a long-lost cousin of his who actually owned his own recording studio and from there would allow Rashad to record there free of charge.
Through Rashad releasing a compilation of songs that were meant to be officially compiled into a project named,"Pieces of a Kid", he would build enough healthy buzz to finally land a deal with TDE via the virtue of a mutual friend introducing him to the President of the company, "Dave Free". Rashad would then begin getting national exposure through his BET Awards Cypher from 2013 verse with his TDE conglomerate. Consequently, Rashad's verse would gain him national attention and would help land him on the 2014 XXL Freshmen Roster along with other talented upcoming MC's such as "Chance The Rapper" and "Vic Mensa".
On January 28th, 2014 Isaiah would release his critically acclaimed debut project, "Cilvia Demo" that perfectly showcases Rashad's introspective raps over luscious soulfully funky production on songs such as, "Brad Jordan", "Webbie Flow", "Ronnie Drake", "Cilvia Demo" and "Shot You Down". After enjoying the success of his debut project and receiving universal praise for his musical work, Rashad would slip into a dangerous drug addiction problem that would prevent him from making and releasing new music for almost two years in total. In this interview, Rashad even details how Top Dawg (CEO of TDE) almost dropped him from the label until he completely kicked his drug addiction. Fortunately enough for TDE fans worldwide, Rashad was finally taken off the shelf by Top Dawg and finally released his debut studio album, "The Suns Tirade" on September 2nd, 2016. The album showcases an evolved artist in Rashad over mellow bouncy production with the albums highlighted tracks, "Tity and Dolla", "Free Lunch", "Wats Wrong" and "Stuck In The Mud".
