There a few producers in the music game who have proven that they can firmly cement their own brand as an artist and constantly evolve their own signature sound throughout their career. There are even fewer artists who have physically cheated death multiple times and have still gone on to becoming a living legend in the music industry. Virginia's very own songwriter and musical producer extraordinaire, "Timbaland" is widely recognized as one of the most influential and successful music producers of the past two decades with his signature futuristic and funky triple time production style.
Timothy Zachary "Timbaland" Mosey was born on March 10th, 1972 in Virginia and experienced plenty of hardship growing up but always remained passionate about learning music and dedicating all of his energy to becoming the best possible artist he could become. During high school he went to the same school as the legendary artists, "Pharrell Williams" & "Missy Elliot" where he would first make his musical imprint through being a Disc Jockey under the moniker, "DJ Timmy Tim" in the early 1990's and form a group with Pharrell & "Magoo" under the group name, "Surrounded by Idiots". This would lead Timbaland to the opportunity to work with the talented R&B artist, "Ginuwine" to produce the Billboard Top 100 #1 hit song, "Pony" that would usher in a new contemporary sound for Hip Hop & R&B fused music going forward.
Timbaland also formed a beautiful musical chemistry with high school friend Missy Elliot to cultivate one of the best musical duo's of the early 21st century for the countless number of hits they birthed that include, "Work It", "Get Your Freak On" & "The Rain". Timbaland also cultivated some of the best music of his career working alongside Missy to mold the legendary singer, "Aaliyah" and would cultivate numerous incredible hit songs (and multi-platinum albums as well) such as, "One In A Million", "Are You That Somebody" and "Try Again". Timbo's versatile and ingenious production style would allow him to produce for all types of artists, that included, "Madonna" on the track, "4 Minutes", Omarion on the track, "Ice Box" and even with Ludacris for the hit song, "Rollout".
Timbaland is also responsible for the majority of Justin Timberlake's sound after he produced Justin's hit single, "Cry Me A River" in 2002 and from there would go on to produce the music for Justin's subsequent classic albums named, "FutureSex/LoveSounds" and "The 20/20 Experience" . Timbaland even worked closely with the legendary MC, "Jay-Z" on the songs, "Big Pimpin", "Dirt Off Your Shoulder" and "Nigga What, Nigga Who". He produced on multiple Jay-Z albums including his latest album, "Magna Carta, Holy Grail".
Timbaland's passion to always be unique and different is what has always kept him a step ahead of most producers throughout the past two decades! Be sure to check out his incredible production discography here and some of his best production below!
